There are no impossible dreams!
Here's a simple technique that can help you discover what you're wishing for - and make it happen!
We all want to be happy, and everyone I've met who truly was started with a dream they wanted to make come true. But sometimes it's hard to figure out what will make our lives more fulfilling simply because we don't know how to set goals.
I've discovered what I believe to be the four reasons we don't set goals:
1. Our parents never set goals. 2. Goal setting was never taught to us in school. 3. We're afraid we can't achieve our goals. 4. We fear we'll disappoint others if we fail.
But setting goals - and achieving them - is easier than you think! Here is how to get started:
First, make a list of at least 100 (yes 100!) goals you want to accomplish in your lifetime. Be specific! Then cut out pictures from magazines, travel brochures and catalogues that represent your dreams. A picture of a slender model might represent achieving your ideal body weight, a picture of the Sydney Opera House, your goal of traveling to Australia.
Then paste the pictures into a scrapbook or photo album. Now you have a "Goal Book". Once you've done this, take a few moments each day to look through your Goal Book. This will heighten your motivation to make your dreams come true. My friend and colleague Glenna Salsbury's story shows how powerful his technique can be.
In 1977, Glenna begins-
I was a single mother with three young daughters, a mortgage, a car payment and a need to rekindle some dreams. One evening I attended a seminar and heard a speaker point out that the mind thinks in pictures, not words. And as we vividly picture in our mind what we desire, it will become a reality.
This concept struck a chord of creativity. I knew the Biblical truth that the Lord gives us "the desires of our heart" and that "as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he". So I pasted pictures that depicted the "desires of my heart"
Setting goals - and achieving them - is easier than you think. In a photo album and waited expectantly. I was very specific with my pictures. They included:
1. A good-looking man. 2. A woman in a wedding gown and a man in a tuxedo. 3. Bouquets of flowers. (I'm a romantic!) 4. Beautiful diamond jewelry. 5. An island in the sparkling blue Caribbean. 6. A lovely home. 7. New furniture. 8. A woman who had recently become vice-president of a large corporation. (I wanted to be the first female V.P. of my company!)
About eight weeks later, I was driving on the freeway when a car passed me. I couldn't help but notice how handsome the driver was. He smiled, I smiled back. I exited, he exited. I parked, he parked...
The day after our first date, Jim sent me a dozen roses. We dated for two years, and every Monday morning I received a long-stemmed red rose and a love note from him. When he proposed he gave me a beautiful diamond ring!
About three months before our wedding he said, "I've found the perfect place for our honey-moon. It's a beautiful island in the Caribbean". I laughingly said, "I never would have guessed!"
The rest of my dreams also came true. On our wedding day, I wore a beautiful gown, and Jim looked so handsome in his tuxedo! We bought a lovely home, and because Jim works as a wholesale distributor for a furniture manufacturer, we were able to beautifully furnish it. My promotion came through too!
I know this sounds like a fairy tale, but it's true! Jim and I have made many "pictures books" since we've been filled with the demonstration of these powerful principles of faith at work.
Decide what it is you want in every area of your life. Imagine it vividly. Then act on your desires by creating your own Goal Book. There are no impossible dreams!
