Marriage Communications

Q: Hi Isabel: I would like to improve my relationship with my husband, after 10 years of marriage our communication has slowed down so much that sometimes we seem to be strangers. What can you recommend me?
Fiorella, New Westminster BC

A: Dear Fiorella:  That is very common, after 10 years there is not much to say, but please analyze why this is happening. Are there problems and/or resentments and disappointments in your relationship? If there are, talk to him about it. If you still love him and want to improve the situation I would recommend you read my "Feng Shui" article, specially follow through the Relationship Gua Tips. Make the changes in your bedroom particularly, and in your living room. If you have any questions, please write back to me. Also if you can afford it try the "Mystical Flower Bath" to spice up your life!

Gems recommended: Rose Quartz, smoky quartz, garnet, amethyst, jade and turquoise. You can find a sample of Rose Quartz earrings and pendants in my Metaphysical Jewelry section. Good luck.

Difficult Situations

Q: Dear Isabel:
I am married to a Canadian, and we live in a farm, very far from town, so I feel very isolated. He is a farmer and I am a city woman. We have been married for 14 years, and we have three children. My husband is extremely selfish, and that is making me very unhappy and depressed. He practically doesn’t count on me for any major decisions or changes at home. He does everything on my back, like cheating on me. I feel like a big zero to the left, I am worth nothing to him. I have talked to him numerous times, but I get no response. It seems to me he doesn’t love me anymore, and the worst of all is that he has become a heavy drinker and gets aggressive and violent under the effects of alcohol. My children are scared of him, the same as myself. He doesn’t want to seek medical treatment or going to the AAA. What do you recommend me?
Meche, Rolla BC

A: Dear Meche:
Unfortunately, I have no good news for your marriage situation. If this man really loves you and his children, he would make an effort for things to work out in your marriage, and he would have changed long time ago. If he is doing things on your back, he doesn’t consider or respect you. You must ask yourself if there is anything that worth the while to salvage in your marriage, for your children’s sake. If your answer is NO, then move on, you don’t want your children to grow up seeing the bad example their father is giving them. Something really ugly could happen if you continue with this relationship. I can tell you for sure, you will do much better on your own. Be strong and look for legal advice immediately, don’t delay any longer. I wish you the best.
Gems recommended: Black Onyx aids inner serenity and fights fear. Carnelian to sooth life's hardship and banish fear.

Attraction only, recipe for disaster

Q: Dear Isabel:
I have been single for a long time. Recently I was invited to a party where I met this gorgeous man and I find myself daydreaming constantly of him. I think I am in love with this guy. We are just friends now, but I would like this friendship to become a serious relationship, and I do not know how to do that. Looks like he has been single for a while too, according to our common friends. I feel there is lots of attraction between both of us, but I am afraid to go further because I do not want to get hurt. Please tell me what to do.
Lucy, Vancouver BC

A: Dear Lucy:
You are doing something right, be friends first. Get to know each other better. Discover what things you have in common. Make sure both of you are compatible. Do not get involved with someone only because you feel attracted to him; of course, this is important too, but looks are temporary and superficial. Once beauty is gone (due to weight gain and aging signs) there is no attraction anymore, then this is not a good foundation for a long term relationship. Make him love you for who you really are, not for your looks and viceversa. Remember that it is more important what he has in his heart and upstairs (his brains), not only his looks. Find out if he is a sensible person, and not a conceited one. I can see a friendship time and a sentimental time too. Go slowly, but surely. You won’t regret it!!!
Gems recommended: Rose quartz for love, Jade to attract loyalty

Work...

Bad Workplace

Q: Hello Isabel: I am working in a nasty work environment. The owner of the company is very rude to me and always tries to put me down. I am a decent person and I feel that I don't deserve this, I do the best I can but I get no appreciation at all in return. I feel that there is no chance of moving on in this company, but I need to work at least part time. What should I do?
Lila, Port Moody BC

A: Dear Lila: The best thing you can do is to start applying to different other positions out there, and try to quit when you have a job lined up. You are right, you do not deserve to be treated badly. That boss is not going to change, so do not waste time and start sending your resumes. You will find something that will appeal to you; a change is always a good thing. Keep your chin up.
Gems recommended: Turquoise for good luck, hematite for magnetism & optimism, and crystal quartz which attracts people and is an energizer.

Dissappointed at work

Q: Dear Isabel:
I am a new immigrant to Canada. I do not speak English fluently that’s why I couldn’t get a better job. I was a successful lawyer in my own country, and here I am working as a cleaning person. I feel terrible, my mood is very low. I would like to put all my knowledge to work. Please tell me what I can do to improve my situation?
Norah, Kamloops BC

A: Dear Norah:
First of all, I want you to think and remain positive about your current job. To lift your mood, try to wear a walkman and listen to happy music in the meantime you are cleaning, of course if your job allows it (hopefully). Take it as if you are doing exercises and you are getting paid for it. Take this job as a stepping stone. Look for an immigrant services agency to get to study English in the evenings, this is very important for you, without a good knowledge of the language, you won’t be able to get a better job. Usually these organizations can help you revalidate your credentials and diplomas. Give yourself a year or two to accomplish your goals. When you feel confident about your English skills, try to volunteer your services in a legal setting to get to know the laws of Canada.
Gems recommended: Agate, for self confidence, amber for inner strength.

Not Sleeping Well

Q: Hi Isabel:
I read your Feng Shui article, and got interested in the section about not having mirrors in the bedroom. I have a big mirror in front of my bed. Is this the reason that I am not sleeping well? I wake up every two hours during the night, and it's been a long time since I enjoyed a full night sleep. I am always tired and cranky because I can't sleep properly. Can you tell me if this is because of my mirror?
Angie, Port Coquitlam BC

A: Hi Angie: According to Feng Shui principles, having a mirror in the bedroom is not suitable for you. I would recommend you to cover it during the night and until you are totally awaken, after your shower, then you can uncover it, so you can use it as you normally do. Try this and you will see a difference. Please inform me how you feel after a while of practicing this change.

Gems recommended: black onyx and bloodstone, both to avoid strees and give calm.

Self-image

Q: Hi Isabel: I am a single mom of a 3-year-old baby. For 3 years I haven't had a date. After my pregnancy I don't feel attractive and I do not like to wear make-up. I have a darker skin, like tanned, and green eyes. I am a very sensible person and my philosophy is what you see is what you get.
Maggie, Coquitlam BC

A: Dear Maggie: I can tell you don't like certain things about you, but I am positive you can change those things. If you have some extra pounds, go to the gym or start a diet. About the make-up, don't worry… there are men who dislike make-up in women. So, you are fine. I must tell you to be a little bit more positive towards yourself. I would like to recommend you to read "The Power of Affirmations" in my Isabel Writes section.
Gems recommended: Rose quartz for love, smoky quartz for good luck, crystal quartz to attract people, hematite for attraction and magnetism.

Candida Overgrowth

Q: Dear Isabel:
This is very embarrassing for me. I have a terrible problem with my breath. I didn’t have this condition before. I noticed that I got this horrible breath after being in a long antibiotics treatment. And seem to be I can not get rid of it. My husband is a dentist, and he found nothing wrong with my teeth or my gums. The truth is that I am being a chicken, and I try to hide myself from everybody, because of my condition. I went to several doctors, and nobody can find what the problem is. I do not use or abuse from garlic, or onions, or anything that produces a strong odor, but the problem is still there. Can you please tell me what it is?
C., Tumbler Ridge BC

A: Dear C:
A long treatment with antibiotics can produce a yeast (candida) overgrowth and this leads to bad breath and other uncomfortable symptoms. You must take a probiotic (like acidophilus) and lots of plain yogurt (not the fruity ones) to restore the good flora in your stomach. Then the next step would be to take a yeast killer far from the probiotic intake. I strongly recommend you to find, right away, a good naturopathic doctor in your area, because sometimes this condition is not easily detected by family doctors. A naturopathic doctor will tell you if it is a yeast problem, or if it is a digestion problem, if this is the case then he probably will recommend you digestive enzymes. Another thing you can do is, avoid drinking water with meals, drink it between meals. Avoid sugary things, no chocolate, no candies, no cakes, because yeast feeds from sugar and flour, and make the problem lot worst; avoid brew things, like teas, coffee, or alcohol. Also avoid fiber, because this can accentuate the problem. Avoid stress which can deteriorate your general well being. Hope this information can help you.
Gems recommended: Hematite: Strengthens the physical body
Jade: Protects against illness
